Normally issued in green, one instance of a yellow variety of this stamp it was found
in 1885 by Georg Wilhelm Backman on a letter during a visit to his grandmother. It
was printed with the ink color meant for the 8 skilling banco of the same set. 1886 the stampdealer Heinrich Lichtenstein, Stockholm, bought the stamp for 7 kronor (SEK). Philipp la Rénotière von Ferrary, well-known stampcollector, bought the stamp 1894 through the agency of Sigmund Friedl for 4,000 gulden (£400). At least in 1996 the stamp was sold for 2.5 million Swiss Franken (= $2.27 million) at David Feldmann S.A. in Geneve auction to an unknown collector. Here is some intresting information which I would like to
share with you, on the mauritius stamps. One cover the 1 penny & the 2
penny sold in Zurich, Switzerland in 1993 for: 5,000,000 US $.
In my research over the years extremely rare stamps like the mauritius stamps have sold at auctions usually for 3 to 4 times the catalogued value. In conclusion please answer: How can you determine the price of the 2 penny mauritius as: 1,000,000 $ when in fact it is priceless? Please reply to: Oliver Chandler |
